Helmer attempts to give Putin campaign direction

MOSCOW -- Politics and film will never be far apart in Russia. Even though, unlike the U.S., the nation has not were built with a former actor as leader, pm Vladimir Putin is placing a film director at the middle of his third presidential bid.Stanislav Govorukhin, a 75-year-old film veteran, continues to be named mind of Putin's presidential campaign. The Putin loyalist -- whose career highlights include making the 1979 TV detective series "Mesto vstrechi izmenit nelzya" (The Meeting Place Can't Be Transformed) starring anti-establishment singer-songwriter-actor Vladimir Vysotsky -- switched to politics following the collapse from the Ussr.Even though the participation of the seniors filmmaker inside a re-election campaign may seem strange to Western eyes, Govorukhin's qualifications in Russia are very well established. The self-declared democrat, who flirted with nationalist Communism within the the nineteen nineties, lost a boy within the first Chechen war, and when opposed Putin, is part of Russia's lower house of parliament, the Condition Duma, for Putin's U . s . Russia party.Govorukhin is not the only real director to consider to politics. Nikita Mikhalkov, another well-known Russian director (1995's Stalin-era fable "Burnt through the Sun") stumped for Boris Yeltsin within the 1996 presidential race, showing up inside a TV commercial being an astronaut for that candidate. He, like Govorukhin, has since moved right-wing nationalists.Like a director, Govorukhin were built with a populist touch with detective or adventure films championing strong male figures seeking to right wrongs while operating outdoors social norms. His support of Putin appears to become in line with his earlier artistic inclinations. There is however now an issue whether he's also in line with present day Russian zeitgeist. Fifty 1000 folks Moscow required towards the roads 12 ,. 10 to have to have a re-election of latest parliamentary elections denounced as rigged by independent experts. More demos happened Christmas eve, when as much as an believed 120,000 people braved sub-zero temps in Moscow to demand he step lower -- an occurrence which has clearly shaken the Kremlin.Putin -- who intends to run for his third term as leader in March -- stated 12 ,. 27 that measures must be come to make that election free, fair and transparent. That's unlikely to fulfill protesters, although their influence is basically limited to Moscow along with other large metropolitan areas.Nonetheless, a filmmaker as experienced as Govorukhin clearly has his work eliminate for him. The Essential Spielberg: An Age-By-Age Guide to Introducing Kids to His Movies

This holiday season offers a rare double feature of Steven Spielberg films: the swashbuckling big-screen adaptation of 'The Adventures of Tintin' and the intensely poignant drama 'War Horse.' But neither movie may be appropriate for your whole family -- both movies are for older tweens and up, or in the case of 'War Horse' perhaps even teens. Of course, that doesn't mean kids aren't ready to see the master director's work. Moviefone is here to help you decide when -- and how -- to introduce the youngins to the inimitably impressive filmography of the man responsible for such classics as 'E.T.,' 'Jaws,' and 'Indiana Jones.' Here are 11 Spielberg flicks and when to see them. Kids (7 & Up) 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind': Spielberg's first "friendly alien" movie follows a Midwestern father and a single mother who both experience a "close encounter" with a UFO. The pair then feel compelled to travel to a mountain in Wyoming to await the arrival of an alien ship that has been subliminally communicating with a five-tone message. A few parts are a bit scary -- particularly when a young boy is abducted -- but except for E.T., these aliens are as friendly as they get in movies. 'E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial': There's something special about a kid seeing 'E.T.' for the first time -- a kinship between children and Elliot (Henry Thomas), who befriends a kind, peaceful alien with healing powers and a sweet tooth for Reese's Pieces. Nearly 30 years after its release, some of us original fans are now sharing the child-led sci-fi adventure with our own kiddos, who quickly discover that E.T. really does have the magic touch. The flying bicycle scene alone is worth the DVD purchase! 'Hook': We admit it's not Spielberg's best film, but it's one of his easiest for younger kids to enjoy. A twist on the typical 'Peter Pan' adaptation, 'Hook' is a follow-up to Peter Pan's original adventures. Having finally grown up (and forgotten his youth), Peter (Robin Williams) is a successful attorney living with his wife and two kids. But Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) will have none of it and kidnaps the children, drawing Peter back to Neverland. More amusing than a classic, it will nonetheless entertain your entire crew of boys and girls who don't want to group up. Tweens (9-12) 'Indiana Jones' Saga: Few things would make a tween boy happier than an 'Indiana Jones' marathon (OK, perhaps, a 'Star Wars' marathon). Harrison Ford's legendary archeologist is one of moviedom's most beloved heroes, and his four globetrotting adventures (especially the first three) will endear young viewers to the point of obsession. Indy has spawned Legos, videogames, Halloween costumes, and countless one-liners that kids will never forget. Be warned -- younger fans may want a toy whip to practice their swashbuckling skills afterward. 'Jaws': All it takes is a few measures from John Williams' iconic score to instill terror in any moviegoer's heart. Spielberg's chilling tale isn't a schlock fest like today's "animals gone wild" horror flicks. There aren't any bikini-clad or buffed-up protagonists but instead a resort town's well-intentioned police chief (Roy Scheider), an alarmed marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a hard-scrabbled fisherman (Robert Shaw) who team up to hunt down the man-eating Great White that has attacked several beachgoers. Watch it and share the thrill of that "da-dum-da-dum-da-dum" with your awed tween. 'Jurassic Park': Another one of Spielberg's epic thrillers follows a group of scientists as they visit a billionaire's extraordinary theme park where geneticists clone fossil DNA into living, breathing, predatory dinosaurs. Accompanied by the owner's two tween grandchildren, the three scientists are stranded in the park when a rogue employee shuts off the electricity. Chaos -- in the form of carnivorous T-rexes and velociraptors -- ensues, and viewers will hold their breath through the action until the very last shot. Early Teens (13-15) 'Amistad': History will come alive for teens (and parents) as they learn about the true story of Cuban schooner Amistad's slave revolt, which caused an international legal battle when it dropped anchor off the Long Island coast in 1839. Abolitionists claimed the slaves should be freed, while the Spanish wanted the vessel and their "human property" returned to Cuba. But this is not a PBS special on the subject: there's action, violence, and at its heart, the stunning Djimon Hounsou as Cinque and young property attorney Roger Sherman Baldwin (Matthew McConaughey, who for once keeps his shirt on), who forge an unlikely friendship. 'The Color Purple': Spielberg's adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of one woman's quest to find dignity in the face of dehumanizing racism and sexism in 1930s Georgia isn't always easy to watch, but it's an important, beautifully acted depiction of what life was like for African Americans 80 years ago. As the long-suffering Celie, Whoopie Goldberg gave the best performance of her career, and teens will be blown away to see Oprah Winfrey before she became one of the most powerful women in the world. 'War of the Worlds': Spielberg's take on H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi novel is not for the faint of heart, but if your kid can handle 'Jaws,' he can probably deal with the terrifyingly gripping thriller. The Martians do NOT come in peace, so Tom Cruise's divorced father must flee as fast as he possibly can to save his teenage son (Justin Chatwin) and young daughter (Dakota Fanning, who screams her way through most of the alien invasion) from being captured or killed by the technologically superior aliens bent on world domination. Older Teens (15 & Up) 'Saving Private Ryan': Sometimes the best comes to those who wait, and Spielberg's two WWII based stories are perfect for teens old enough to handle the mature material. In 'Saving Private Ryan,' Spielberg follows a group of American soldiers led my Tom Hanks from the Invasion of Normandy through a seemingly impossible mission to rescue the titular Private Ryan (Matt Damon), the only brother left alive in a family of four servicemen. Teens will find the unflinchingly violent chronicle of war both educational and inspiring. 'Schindler's List': The Oscar-winning Holocaust drama might be mandatory viewing in high-school world history these days, but even if it isn't, definitely have your teenager watch the shocking, heartbreaking film. Based on the true story of the profiteering industrialist Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), the black-and-white drama details how he transforms into a selfless humanitarian and ultimately saved more than 1100 Jews from dying in concentration camps. It's Spielberg's most personal film, and it's a masterpiece. Angelina Jolie to Receive PGA Honor for 'In the Land of Blood and Honey'

Angelina Jolie has been praised for her global humanitarian work, and now her directorial debut, 'In the Land of Blood and Honey,' is being honored for its "provocative social issues" by the Producers Guild of America. Jolie will be presented with the guild's 2012 Stanley Kramer Award at their awards ceremony on Jan. 21. "'In the Land of Blood and Honey' is an extraordinary film that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the Bosnian War, especially towards women," Producers Guild presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon said in a statement. "This film truly embraces the legacy of Stanley Kramer." Kramer, who died in 2001, was a highly respected director and producer known for his socially conscious films including 'Judgment at Nuremberg,' 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,' and 'The Defiant Ones.' The award named after him is bestowed on films, producers or another individual "whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion." Previous recipients include 'Hotel Rwanda' and 'In America.' 'In the Land of Blood and Honey' opens in limited release on Dec. 23. The film's PR says it "portrays the incredible emotional, moral and physical toll that the war takes on individuals as well as the consequences that stem from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict." The 8 Stupidest Movies to Find Yourself Getting a Golden Globe Nomination

Congratulations, 2012 Golden Globe nominees, you'll be able to hold the mind high understanding you have something that's much like 'Patch Adams.' No-it's possible to ever take that of your stuff. The right response is an recognition. (And, yes, 'Patch Adams' really was nominated for just about any Golden Globe.) The truth is, the primary reason the Golden Globes aren't most likely probably the most respected honours is really because it's selected up with a very few foreign (ahem) journalists who had been regarded as vulnerable to, let's say, (ahem) outdoors influences that may evaluate which will receive a nomination. I used to be by having an elevator getting an individual within the Hollywood Foreign Press (I wager he referred to as it a "lift") at that time in the 'War Horse' junket. He made an appearance as being a nice enough chap, but he desired to inform anybody which will listen he would have lunch with "Steven." (I am in a position to only assume he was mentioning to Spielberg and not Seagal or Guttenberg.) Then, after, shared his tales of fortune on just the amount of occasions he's shared foods with "Steven," going as far to read the various nations through which it's happened. (It had been a very extended elevator lift ride.) So, basically: In the event you treat the Hollywood Foreign Press right and promise that you will appear for his or her party, there is a strong possibility they, consequently, will treat your movie right. (Though not Steven he was snubbed.) With this particular, listed below are the eight stupidest movies that have ever be a Golden Globe nomination. 'The Tourist' (2010) This really awful movie starring Jennifer Aniston and also the Actor-kaira Pitt was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Burlesque' (2010) This really awful movie starring Cher was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Bobby' (2006) This really forgettable movie starring Lindsay Lohan was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Analyze This' (1999) This really awful movie starring Billy Very and Robert P Niro was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Patch Adams' (1998) This really awful movie starring Robin Williams getting a ball on his nose was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Sabrina' (1995) This really awful remake starring Harrison Ford was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'Sister Act' (1992) This really annoying movie starring Whoopi Goldberg was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' (1982) This really awful movie starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton was nominated for just about any Best Picture Golden Globe. Mike Ryan's Year-Finish 5 top Top Movies List

I received an urgent notice today that, since it is the finish from the twelve months, it's my responsibility to create a high movies list. I've found this peculiar. Why would anybody wish to read a listing of top movies compiled by me? In the finish of the season? It simply appears like this type of specific request, I can not suppose anybody may wish to read my listing of top movies. And, to tell the truth, I am not attempting to be smug, but there really aren't lots of top movies available -- especially out of this year. Alas, I am not just one to disregard an immediate order from the superior, so here's a listing from the Five Best Top Movies. [Erectile dysfunction. note: We meant "Top 5 Best Movies"] 'Inception' (2010) Dom Cobb utilizes a top like a totem to be able to differentiate between reality and also the subconscious. The ultimate scene from the movie is top, which makes it the very best top movie. 'My Summer time Story' a.k.a. 'It' Runs in the household (1994) Are you aware there is a follow up to 'A Christmas Story'? Different stars, but all the same figures and everything! But rather than being about Christmas, it comes down to tops. For this reason you've most likely never heard about 'My Summer time Story.' 'The Hebrew Hammer' (2003) Lengthy before Mordechai Carver becomes The Hebrew Hammer, he spins a dreidel. Which is like a high. Beyblade: The Film (2004) Within this Japanese animated series' movie adaptation, the figures fight against one another using tops, that are entitled Beyblades -- hence the title from the series and also the movie. Justice League Of America Limitless (2005) Yes, this can be a TV series, however in one episode there's an excellent villain named Top who are able to spin around just like a top. And, at some point, if there's ever an active-action movie in line with the Expensive (Top and also the Expensive can't stand one another) and Top is incorporated, he'll instantly result in the listing of best top movies. Andy Serkis on the Motion and Emotion Needed in Today's Technology

Andy Serkis on the Motion and Emotion Needed in Today's Technology By Daniel Holloway November 16, 2011 Photo by 20th Century Fox When Fox confirmed earlier this month that it had signed the star of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" to appear in a sequel and would launch a campaign to earn said actor an Academy Award nomination in January, the studio wasn't talking about James Franco. The beneficiary of the dealreportedly in seven-figure territoryand the forthcoming for-your-consideration ads is Andy Serkis. Best known for his work as Gollum in director Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Serkis was seen by many as the true heart of "Rise," in which he played Caesar, the forefather of the damn, dirty apes who put their stinking paws all over Charlton Heston in the 1968 original. Those '60s primates were played by actors in monkey suits. Serkis' performance as Caesar was achieved through motion captureor performance capturea technology that Serkis helped pioneer with Jackson on "Rings" and to which the actor's career has become inextricably linked. The news out of Fox was seen as validation not just of Serkis' work but also, potentially, of the performance-capture process of film acting. So does Serkis think that a performance-capture actor might someday be Oscar nominated?"I hope so," he says. "It's going back, really, to the nuts and bolts of what we do from an acting perspective. The visual effects, that end of it, they are accoladed, and quite rightly so, for the incredible work that they do. But from the performance end of it, there is no difference between acting in a live-action film as yourself and playing a performance-capture role."Serkis is speaking with Back Stage from New Zealand, where he is working with Jackson on the much-anticipated "Rings" prequel "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." The actor has already finished the part where he donned his performance-capture gear and reprised the role of Gollumthe creeping, sneaking creature who appears in "The Hobbit" long enough to lose his Precious, then spends much of "Lord of the Rings" trying to win it back. Now he has moved on to tackling his larger task for the film, serving as Jackson's second unit director.Wedded to the Ring The move behind the camera is the latest step for an Englishman who was, by his own admission, "just kind of a regular actor" more than a decade ago when he got a call about "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the King." Serkis' agent told him Jackson was looking for an actor to voice a computer-generated character named Gollum. The work would take about three weeks. Serkis was less than enthused. "My response was 'Lord of the Rings'?" he says. " 'There must be a dozen decent roles in that movie. Can't you get me up for one of them?' A digital character. I was horrified."Serkis had read J.R.R. Tolkien's epic novel "The Hobbit," in which Gollum plays a small but pivotal part. He was unfamiliar with the subsequent "Rings" book, in which Gollum's role is far meatier. Serkis' wife, however, knew the whole story and convinced him to put together an audition tape for the part. He worked on developing the character physically while trying to find Gollum's voice, and the tape that went to Jackson included much of the physicality that would later be seen in the film. When actor and director finally met, Jackson explained that he had more in mind for Serkis than just voicing an animated figure. He wanted Serkis to act in scene with the other cast members. With the help of new technologies, the character that appeared onscreen would be the result of a collaboration between Serkis and Jackson's digital effects crew, the performance firmly rooted in the actor's work."The whole motion-capture thing was in its very early stages, and no one was really sure whether or not it was going to work," Serkis says. "The initial instinct was for me to play the role on set and then figure out how to do it."These were the days when Jar Jar Binks was still a fresh wound on the American moviegoing psyche. But Gollum drew praise as an example of digital effects being integrated into a live-action film in a way that didn't suck. In his review of the second "Rings" movie, "The Two Towers," Roger Ebert called the character "one of the most engaging and convincing CGI creatures I've seen," adding, "His body language is a choreography of ingratiation and distortion." Serkis' transformation as Caesar in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (20th Century Fox) Adventures in CaptivityBy the time the final "Rings" film, "The Return of the King," was released in 2003, Serkis had become the computer graphicobscured face of performance-capture actingan association that would be reinforced two years later when he played the title gorilla in Jackson's "King Kong." This year sees him starring not only in "Rise" but also in what is being billed as the most ambitious performance-capture film yet: "The Adventures of Tintin," a big-screen adaptation of the Belgian artist Herg's classic adventure comics. The film, in which Serkis plays the gruff Captain Haddock, is produced by Jackson and directed by Steven Spielberg and comes to theaters in December. But it has been a long time in the making."Peter Jackson had said to me, 'Look, we're possibly going to be making 'Tintin,' and you should have a look at Captain Haddock,' " Serkis says. He joined Jackson in Marina del Rey, Calif., where the two began working with Spielberg on character tests. "It was an amazing week of meeting Steven, and Peter was there because Peter had kind of brought the performance-capture process to Steven, and they had decided that they would produce the movie together. It was a really exciting time of experimenting with the character, and Steven said, 'I want you to do it.' We've been making this film for three or four years now. It's just evolved."According to Serkis, that evolution has been shaped by performance capture, through which all of the characters are rendered. The process allows for quick reshoots long after principal photography has finished, so that a character can be continually honed by actors and filmmakers. Serkis also believes it's significant to see performance capture being embraced by directors such as Spielberg and James Cameron, who employed the process in 2009's "Avatar.""I really do think it's the tip of the iceberg," Serkis says. "It opens up so many possibilities across all the disciplines of filmmaking and also video games. That's such a huge arena, as character and narrative make their way into video games."Serkis, who has also directed and acted in video games, is repositioning himself in that arena and in the world of filmmaking. In 2010, he co-founded The Imaginarium, a London production studio tailored to motion-capture work for film, television, video games, and even theater. The company's upcoming projects include a feature film that Serkis is slated to direct. The film will be shot in performance capture, hopefully next year."There are some job-for-hire kind of motion-capture studios, but where we're coming from is very much from the performance end," he says. "So we're looking at performance capture and the actual process of building characters. It's about realizing and creating digital characters in all different mediums."Captivating Audiences So, as he transitions from actor to actor-filmmaker, Serkis, who began his career on the London stage, is essentially doubling down on a technological revolution that he found himself accidentally leading. The association suits him fine."It doesn't bother me," he says. "In fact, I'm actually passionate about it, and it's taken me far. For years what's been important to me is to try and convey to people what it actually is, and there's very little mystery to itit's acting. At the end of the day, performance capture is another way of recording an actor's performance." He compares the work to John Hurt's in the 1980 film "The Elephant Man." "That performance is highly regarded, and quite rightly so, as a brilliant performance. John Hurt was extraordinary as John Merrick, but he was totally unrecognizable for the whole time that he was onscreen, and his look was created by a team of very talented special effects makeup artists, which contributed hugely, obviously, to the performance in how it was received and how it was manifested onscreen."For now, with plenty of work to do on "The Hobbit," and with Serkis' production house finding its footing, his main contributions to the way that performance capture registers onscreen will come from behind the camera. Then there's that Fox deal, with its promise of another turn as Caesar, ensuring that Serkis' days as an actor aren't done yet. They probably never will be."I love acting," he says. "It's been a huge part of my life for over 25 years. But equally I know that there are some films I want to tell more objectively as a storyteller and a filmmaker. I do want to strike a balance, but I'm certainly not cutting out acting. That's very much the core of me."Gollum Again, for the First Time When, a few weeks ago, Andy Serkis slipped into his performance-capture suit and stepped in front of Peter Jackson's cameras to reprise the role of Gollum, more than a decade had passed since he first played the character in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.""The truth of the matter is, I don't think he ever really left me," Serkis says. "It was a huge, as you know, part of my life, so coming back to it was weird."Weird, and not necessarily easy at first. The scene in which Gollum loses the One Ring was the first shot in the current principal photography stage for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," the first of Peter Jackson's two long-anticipated "Rings" prequels. It was also the first scene for Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, the film's titular hero. Unlike other cast members, such as Serkis and Ian McKellen, Freeman was not involved in the "Rings" trilogy."I've known the character, and Martin, who was going to be going through this whole process for the very first time, was able to explore and kind of find Bilbo," Serkis says. The scene was treated "very much like a theater piece," shot from beginning to end a number of times. The repetition helped Freeman find Bilboand it helped Serkis rediscover his inner Gollum."It was sort of like Gollum had been created all of these years ago, and it was almost like doing some weird sort of impersonation," he says. "It had been owned by the public for so long that reclaiming it was quite strange the first couple of days." Eventually the rust shook off. "Going back, you do have all that prior knowledge, and it comes back pretty quickly." Best known for his work as Gollum in director Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Serkis was seen by many as the true heart of "Rise," in which he played Caesar, the forefather of the damn, dirty apes who put their stinking paws all over Charlton Heston in the 1968 original. "Going back, you do have all that prior knowledge, and it comes back pretty quickly."

The Biz: Fox News' Bret Baier on the Network's Big Anniversary

Bret Baier On October 7, 1996, the "on" switch was thrown at the Fox News Channel - and the TV news universe hasn't been the same since. A one-hour special, Fox News Channel - 15 Years - Fair and Balanced (Friday, 10pm/ET; Saturday, 10pm/ET; and Sunday, 3pm/ET), will reflect on the rise of the cable news ratings leader. Among the Fox News veterans looking back is Special Report anchor Bret Baier, who opened the channel's Atlanta bureau in his apartment with just a fax machine and a cell phone in FNC's early days. The Biz recently talked with Baier, who became anchor of Special Report in 2009, about the anniversary, the channel's critics and his emergence as the face of Fox News in the Beltway. TV Guide Magazine: Glenn Beck was giving you a huge audience lead-in, but the ratings for Special Report have held up since he left this summer. Why do you think it's become an appointment program?Baier: A lot of that has to do with the reporting that we're doing. News sells in this environment. It's like drinking from a fire hose. It's coming out of Washington fast with a lot of things that are affecting people in America directly. TV Guide Magazine: So many of the Fox News on-air anchors have been there since the launch. Why is there such longevity and loyalty?Baier: There is a family aspect to it. The company really takes care of people if you go through a tough time. [Fox News chairman] Roger Ailes was one of the first people I received a call from when my son was diagnosed with a heart condition and had to go into surgery. That's one reason. Two is, even when we became number one, we had the scrappy start-up mentality that unified folks from the beginning. When you're number one, you come under fire a lot, and we have. That also unifies folks, especially when you believe in the journalistic stuff that we're doing. TV Guide Magazine: There are still critics who look at Fox News as an outlet that caters to conservative viewers and politicians. You have a reputation for playing it down the middle, and you've been out there defending the network's journalistic integrity to people like Jon Stewart. How do you feel about having to do that?Baier: I believe in the place I work. I think Roger Ailes created an amazing network. I focus on my show everyday. I know what we do in Washington and how we try to cover things. I'm comfortable talking about this network and this show every day. I think people acknowledge that there is a difference between opinion programming and news shows. The biggest critics of Fox are usually people who haven't watched it. And I say, watch my show for three days. Watch Shepard Smith's show, The Fox Report, for three days. And then come back to me and tell me what you think of it. And the loudest critics would come back and say, well I think that was covered pretty fairly. TV Guide Magazine: The "Fox All-Stars" panel segment on your program often has two conservatives (Charles Krauthammer and Stephen Hayes) and one liberal or neutral commentator. It does seem like a pile-on some nights.Baier: I've heard that criticism. I think our panel does a good job of discussing topics not from an ideological point of view all the time but from knowledge of Washington. [They] can articulate where both sides are. The analytical aspect of the panel helps people go to the water cooler and say, 'This is what both sides are saying and this is what I think.' I get the criticism. We strive to find left-leaning columnists and luminaries. It's a challenge sometimes. We're trying to mix it up. TV Guide Magazine: Why is it a challenge? Is there resistance?Baier: No. Some people have contracts at other places. Others are just not into doing TV. It's a number of different things. Day to day, we strive to provide balance on that panel. TV Guide Magazine: The late night comedy clip at the end of your program is always very funny. Who picks it?Baier: It's me. I have someone who is called the kicker person on the staff. It's actually a high-pressure job. That man or woman has to go through all the clips and they have to make a presentation to me at about three o'clock. TV Guide Magazine: You're on Twitter a lot. Are you sending out your own tweets?Baier: I am. I set aside about an hour a day to do social media. But it happens throughout the day. My wife wishes it didn't happen as much as it does. TV Guide Magazine: A job requirement now?Baier: It is the new reality. People feel more connected if they know the guy who's sitting there with them in the living room every night can occasionally answer their tweet. TV Guide Magazine: Earlier you mentioned your son. How is he doing?Baier: He's fantastic. He's four. He's growing like a weed. He is hilarious. We have more challenges ahead. He'll have another open-heart surgery in a year or two and one probably when he's in his teenaged years. It's always in the back of our minds. But right now - it's cliché to say - you enjoy every day. Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

FIRST BOX OFFICE: Real Steel Wins By TKO

FRIDAY NOON: These are very early estimates. But DreamWorks/Disney’sReal Steel is dominating the North American box office today and looking ata mid-$20sM weekendif not higher. Hollywood will only be impressed if the result is mid-$30sM because this action pic has a family overlay and its budget was $110+M. By contrast, director and star George Clooney’s newcomerThe Ides Of March from his Smokehouse Pictures and Sony hadonly a $12.5M production budget after rebates. But this hard-to-sell R-rated adult political thriller co-starring Ryan Gosling is #2 today. It should be in low double digits for the weekend which is the modest showing that Hollywood expected. Alcon Entertainment/Warner Bros’Dolphin Tale will hold well again and likely come in around $9M by Sunday night. Same with Sony Pictures’ baseball picMoneyball in the $7.5M range and the studio’s faith-basedSherwood Pictures’ Courageous in the $5.5M range. Summit Entertainment’s cancer dramedy 50/50 should end up in the $5M range. Universal’s Dream House is not so dreamy with a pretty heftypercentage drop. And Disney’s Lion King 3D may be safely back in the cage after its Blu-Ray release. Full analysis tonight.

Start Looking at Jennifer Aniston Evil Full in 'Snow White'

"Everybody ever see is Marilyn Monroe," states Michelle Williams because the titular Hollywood icon within the first trailer for 'My Week With Marilyn.' For Williams's Oscar chances, this can be a positive thing. A troublesome role if there has ever been one, the 2-time Oscar nominee appears a lot more than as much as the job of embodying Ms. Monroe within the first trailer for that new film. Individuals eyes! Which come-hither look! The small-girl-lost attitude! Add in bonuses because of not excessively breathing-out Monroe's signature voice, and presumed Best Actress management Meryl Streep and Glenn Close must have some stiff competition. Watch ahead. In line with the memoir by Colin Clark (performed onscreen by newcomer Eddie Redmayne) about the building of 'The Princess and also the Frog' with Monroe and Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh), 'My Week With Marilyn' debuts in the NY Film Festival before opening in November. 'Gangster Squad' Is 'Funky' And 'Cool,' Says Star Anthony Mackie

There's something about the subject of gangsters that never gets old. Particularly the Hollywood variety, as depicted in films like "The Departed," "Get Shorty," "Snatch," "Donnie Brasco," HBO's "The Sopranos," and of course "The Godfather." They're all so cool, slick, watchable. It's that iconic allure that had us excited for Ruben Fleischer's next flick, "Gangster Squad," the moment it was announced. The film is based on the L.A. Times' seven-part series, "Tales From The Gangster Squad," by writer Paul Lieberman, which revolved around the LAPD's war on infamous mobster Mickey Cohen. Heavy-hitter Sean Penn will play Cohen, and Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling will play two of the cops who try to bring him down, and always likable Emma Stone is in the mix as a sassy "siren" caught in a love triangle with Gosling's character and one of the gangsters. Another familiar face in the cast is Anthony Mackie, who couldn't tell us much about his role in the film, but promised we won't be disappointed. We asked Mackie for his thoughts on Gosling's big year, as well as what might play out between the two actors onscreen. "Ryan has been a friend of mine for a long time, since 'Half Nelson,' Im glad hes finally in a position where hes getting his just due because he is really one of the most talented actors of his generation," Mackie told us at the "Real Steel" premiere. "'Gangster Squad' is just a bunch of great guys. Ruben is a great director and the story is kind of funky and its a part of LA history that a lot of people dont know. Its going to be a cool movie." Are you ready to see "Gangster Squad?" Tell us in the comments or on Twitter!

Film Academy Leaders Hype New LACMA Movie Museum Plans: All The Pieces Fit Together

Just if you believe it is an inactive duck, it’s back and quacking. For people who've had the make a global class movie museum going to fruitionin L.A.,film capital around the world(countme in on that), last evening’s announcement the Academy of motion Picture Arts & Sciences as well as the La County Museum of Arthave begun the whole process of finally making that dream be realized is great news throughout. Andthat longtime dream museum, which was turning intomore from the nightmare for your Academy, will beright lower the street within the Acad’s own Beverly Slopes headquarters (no less than that’s this program). The Academy issaying the project situated inside the historic old May Co. on Wilshire Blvd now known to as LACMA West will need three to five years to complete. “We are saved to the short track but it'll be according to fund raising,” mentioned the Acad’s new Boss Beginning Hudson, who spoke with me at night todayin a celebration callwith Academy Leader Tom Sherak and LACMA Boss and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan. Hudson wasn’t throwing out official figures but states she needs you'll cough up under half the rough estimate of $480 million the Academy had specific for earlier foiledplan to erect this museum in Hollywood where theyspent about$50 million up to now buying land (which theynow own outright) near their Pickford Concentrate on Vine Street. Nevertheless the idea to support the museum rather within the old 300,000-square-ft space on Wilshire really goes back decades when it absolutely was broached by former Academy Presidents Walter Mirisch and Bob Rehme. It heated up again of a year . 5 ago getting an informal conversation between another Govan and also the other former Academy Leader Sid Ganis, who then introduced the museum mind to Sherak after which it Boss Bruce Davis. “For approximately one hour . 5 I did so something I rarely do. I merely required directly into someone talk who stood a vision together with an aspiration of the items this might mean for the Capital of scotland - La to produce different artistic representations, especially our two artistic representations together in a single location,” mentioned Sherak, who stressed the Board wanted a museum inside their lifetime however the Academy didn’t know how extended it could bring them to enhance the money making one themselves. Govan found save your day. “Being inside the museum world, I see film programs at museums in Paris and Frankfurt. I desired that in La which i understood the Academy stood a dream and so they stood a great resource. And so the question was what could we offer to help that was the beginning of the conversation,” mentioned Govan. Sherak referred to the Board approved further studying the alliance with LACMA and hang a committee together. But after June 1 when Davis outdated and Hudson turned up, things really started moving. Before she lefther previous job,Hudson forged an alliance with LACMA and Govan through which Film Independent would take overrunning themuseum’s troubled film program so she already understood him and sparked immediately for the new museum idea. “It was like prone to target practice and punching the bulls-eye 15 occasions back to back. Before anybody understood it, including me, there has been budgets, and he or she was like Road Runner. Next factor I understood i had been all in the room and finally talked about an M.O.U. (Memorandum of Understanding) which he presented it to his Board which we provided to our Board last evening which we made a decision i had been gonna go to a museum inside our lifetime,” mentioned a clearly revived Sherak. The running process cannot are available in a much better time since it seemsmajor collections that certainly might have been area of the completely new museum Are going available on the market and on offer piecemeal to non-public fanatics, many in the country.Seven-hundred items within the John Wayne estate including keycostumes, honours, scripts and documents choosing for auction a couple of days ago, while Darlene Reynolds is ongoing to promote off her invaluable range of costumes after fruitless attempts to acquire a museum going herself. “Not that we could request that individuals could ever have bought the Darlene Reynolds collection generally. We couldn’t did that. The range’s worth a lot of money, you'd have required to put an oil well up,” mentioned Sherak. But Hudson desires to stress just what the Academy already has alone. “As you well be familiar with Academy makes plenty of investment over time in building our world-class archive and film library like none other now our year-round work could have a house, an area to exhibit it, a distillation of all the Academy’s missions that everybody doesn’t know enough about, ” mentioned Hudson in mentioning that you have a much more for the organization than the Oscars. “We have 42,000 movie posters and ten million catalogued movie photographs. We've such beautiful products within our film background there hasn’t been a public place to determine people or access people.” Sherak highlights the Academy is certainly trying to find purchases. “We have an overabundance stuff saved than Carter has liver pills. The finish outcome is we never stop doing that. That is in many regions of the organization within the first printing press of motion picture one-sheets. We've stuff saved which will spin the mind, that nobody understands. It’s a ongoing factor for people,” according to him. And Govan thinks the completely new museum might even breed more. “From a museum perspective Personally, i've spoken toa great deal of people in regards to the products and posters and things they have but there’s that sense when there has been a museum people would donate. Urban centers build great museums those appear like there’s a home for your objects they have cared for in their existence and so they be familiar with public can be helped by that,” according to him. Sherak also desires to make apparent they haven't abandoned the Hollywood site (although I am toldkey figures within the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce were caught suddenly — and not happy campers — after they read todayof the Academy’s proposednew locationfor their museum). “We own that land. It’s ours free and apparent which we’re now on the way of trading money to raze people structures and making it an area to go to. We’ll probably carry out some exhibits there. We’ll carry out some stuff while using land. I’ve always had this imagine running an outdooor theatre there which I do think in. We’re certainly in Hollywood. The Pickford Center sits there. We’re invested. We’re not going anywhere. This program is always to make that land useful to us,” Sherak states. But clearly the momentum has moved from Hollywood for the historic building that sits on the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax which was built-in 1939, the season many still feel was the best ever for your movies. “It just made an appearance like the timing was right,” Hudson mentioned. “All the pieces fit together.”

'NCIS,' 'New Girl' top Tuesday

The third Tuesday of the new season looked a lot like the first two, with CBS vet ''NCIS'' steamrolling the competition in the opening hour and Fox's ''New Girl'' shining at 9 o'clock and standing as the night's top show among young adults. Fox prevailed for a third straight Tuesday in adults 18-49, while CBS ruled among adults 25-54 and total viewers. According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, CBS opened the night a winner with ''NCIS'' (4.1 rating/12 share in adults 18-49, 18.9 million viewers overall), down slightly week to week but winning its hour in 18-49 and again Tuesday's top dog in both 25-54 (5.4/14) and total viewers. The net then fell off some at 9 p.m. with ''NCIS: Los Angeles'' (3.4/8 in 18-49, 14.7 million viewers overall), second in 18-49 and first in 25-54, and some more at 10 p.m. with rookie ''Unforgettable'' (2.4/6 in 18-49, 11.3 million viewers overall), which again led its hour but dipped another tick in 18-49. At Fox, ''Glee'' (3.5/10 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) ranked second in 18-49 for the 8 o'clock hour, down a bit from last week, but comedy ''New Girl'' again built on its lead-in to win at 9 o'clock among young adults (4.3/11 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall); though down slightly from last week, the Zooey Deschanel-fronted comedy was again Tuesday's No. 1 show in 18-49 and was especially dominant in 18-34 (4.9/14). Tuesday remains an OK but hardly spectacular night for NBC, as ''The Biggest Loser'' dipped further (2.0/5 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) and ''Parenthood'' also was down a bit (2.0/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), though it remained within 1 share of the 18-49 lead. SHAKEDOWN: Will Moviegoers Finish Up Having to pay For three dimensional Glasses If Galleries Wont?

UPDATE: The new sony Responds To NATOs Declare That Galleries three dimensional Glasses Plan's Myopic The fight line is beginning to harden around who’ll purchase individuals lame-searching three dimensional glasses. I’ve found that other galleries might fall into line behind The new sony’s decision to prevent having to pay the typical 50-cents some fee from May. Rival galleries let me know Fox is aboard. “We’re studying our options, but haven’t made any choices yet,” refused Fox Shot Entertainment spokesperson Chris Petrikin. Remember, Foxwas first in line to test tostop having to pay for glasses in 2009 if this launched Ice Age. However needed to abandon that effort after theaters rebelled. The new sony was technically correct today if this stated inside a statement that “there never continues to be” a proper agreement stipulating that galleries would shoulder the price of three dimensional glasses. However it’s clear to see why participants are stunned by The new sony’s stoppage. Since it changes an awareness that’s experienced place since 2005 when Disney’s Chicken Little began the three dimensional movie phenom. “It is really a radical departure from exactly what the practice continues to be,” National Association of Theater Proprietors Leader John Fithian informs me. Now Regal Boss Amy Miles alerts when studiosend the practice it could “result in less screens showing three dimensional films”. That’s not so good news for Hollywood, whichplans release a 39 films in three dimensional the coming year, versus. 36 this year. Participants might encourage customers to create their very own three dimensional glasses. That might be the near future anyway. But BTIG analyst Wealthy Greenfield states if theaters require payment for three dimensional specs on the top from the typical three dimensional surcharge($3.25 to $4 a ticket), then “the U.S. moviegoer will reject this as the second method for exhibitorsto milk them and additional decrease their curiosity about three dimensional (and possibly likely to themovies generally)”. Your dream has ended glasses manufactured for RealD so it, consequently, supplies these phones theaters. RealD’sstock cost was lower -14.7% today around the The new sony news. The three dimensional tech company won’t disclose just how much its smart for that specs, however it’s stated to charge between 40 cents some to $1 with respect to the size an order. Some participants grumble about handling a monopoly, but RealD spokesperson Ron Heineman informs me the system”allows us to complete qc.” He adds that the organization is available to other business models. For instance, moviegoers in Europe and Australia frequently buy glasses for around $1 in the concession stand. RealD also wouldn’t mind if people keep and reusetheir glasses. Or spend out around $150 for any classy-searching pair from producers including Polaroid, Gunnar Optics, Marchon, and Oakley. (What, no Pradayet?) Producers state that the pricey specs give a better three dimensional experience, though Heineman states RealDcertifies that the cheap modelsmeet its minimum specifications. Theater proprietors maintain that galleries already have a very good deal. Hollywood collects about 52% from the box office revenue within the U.S. versus. 40% or less in Europe and Australia. The new sony is ready an olive branch of sorts byasking participants to “engage inside a collegial dialogue around relating to this problem, including at ShowEast the following month.” But Fithian states the studio”should have began by speaking for their partners”.
